Information for providers

• Do you run an out of school service?
• Are you interested in developing an out of school service? An out of school service can be organised in many different ways:
• A setting where children can play and are cared for in a safe, secure play based environment.
• Mixed environments where children can play, do home work and are supported in all activities.
• Homework Clubs.

Out of school services may be provided by a variety of centres or groups:

• Childminders
• Community groups
• Day Care centres, crèches
• Family resource centres
• Schools
• Pre school providers

The ethos of the Out of School service should reflect a combination of educational activities, homework completion and encouraging the children to engage in social and creative activities with their peers. The emphasis should be on providing a relaxed recreational environment, which allows the child to explore, investigate and develop emerging skills in a safe secure environment.

How we can assist

Limerick City Childcare Committee can assist by providing the following:

• Information on funding and how to set up and develop your service.
• Support through our providers network.
• Assistance with funding applications.
• Advice regarding training and development.
• Help with developing policies and procedures for your Out of School service.
