Limerick City Childcare Strategy 2007-2010

Launched by Minister for Defence, Willie O’Dea, T.D on 26th November 2007.

Following an extensive review of its work and widespread consultation throughout the city, the Limerick City Childcare Committee has developed a new childcare strategy in line with the requirements of the National Childcare Investment programme 2006 -2010.

The new LCCC Strategy, which will cover the period from 2007 – 2010, was launched by Minister for Defence, Willie O’Dea, T.D on Monday, 26th November, 2007.

Speaking at the launch of the strategy, Geraldine Lambert, chairperson of the Committee said that since its inception, the Childcare Committee has played an active role in childcare provision, particularly in the area of information and training provision. ‘I hope the new strategy will enable providers, parents and children to work together to continue the many innovative aspects of the last 5 years and to be able to meet the challenges and opportunities in the coming years.’

The new childcare strategy is based on five thematic areas which form the guiding principles on which the new LCCC strategy has been developed, which include the role of the childcare Committee in developing it’s strategic role in coordinating sustainable childcare provision in Limerick city, enhancing effective communication lines for childcare providers, childminders, staff and parents, promoting the provision of relevant and accessible training, promoting quality development as well as developing a publicity and information strategy.

According to Mary Moloney, Coordinator of the Childcare Committee” While a number of challenges have been identified the new strategy presents many exciting opportunities to build on our previous successes, as we continue to work with childcare providers and parents to shape the development of the childcare infrastructure in Limerick city in  new and innovative ways”
